Rinnai recommends installing a sediment filter before it the water heater. Occasionally you will need to flush the system for maintenance purposes.

The Rinnai RUR98 water heater is intended for use in a residential application and includes features to save water and simplify installation. While both models include Rinnai's Circ-Logic recirculation program, only the RUR model has a built in pump to use this feature straight out of the box. The RUR also includes a thermal by-pass valve for applications without a dedicated return line. The RUC model will require a field supplied pump to use the Circ-Logic feature. The Rinnai RUC98 model is designed with commercial applications in mind and can achieve supply temperatures of up to 180 F when used with the optional MCC-91-2US controller. The RUR model is limited to 140 F under all circumstances. In terms of performance and efficiency, the two are essentially identical.

Sizing a tankless water heater involves a few easy steps. You can use the map on our Tankless Water Heater Buying Guide to determine your incoming water temperature (it's really easy). Based on that, you'd determine the flow rate you'll get from any tankless water heater in the specifications PDF.

For example, in Chicago we have 47 degree ground water, meaning I would want a 73 degree temperature rise. The Rinnai RUR98IP (spec sheet) will produce about 5.5 GPM at that temperature rise - more than enough to run a standard shower head and a dishwasher at the same time. Standard fixture GPM requirements can be found in the tankless water heater buying guide linked above.
