Goodman established itself as the largest HVAC manufacturer in the US by producing high-quality, efficient equipment and providing it to homeowners at a great value. The GMSS92 single-stage, multi-speed furnace uses a pair of steel heat exchangers to convert 92% of the energy used into comfort. It is equipped with a four-speed blower motor, which provides your home with comfortable circulation through a wide variety of conditions. The GMSS920603BN was designed with multiple options for the unit's gas, electric, and venting connections and orientation, ensuring a painless and quick installation. It even features a self-diagnosing control board that makes maintenance a breeze. If you're looking for reliable comfort and excellent energy efficiency from a single-stage furnace, it's tough to beat Goodman's, it's tough to beat Goodman's GMSS92.

    Product Features

    Advanced Heat Exchanger Design
The GMSS92 furnace employs a reliable dual-diameter tubular heat exchanger design. Aluminized steel is used in construction for incredibly efficient heat transfer, and a wrinkle-bend is applied to the tubes to enhance the heat exchanger's dependability and longevity.

    Secondary Heat Exchanger
This furnace produces additional heat without using more fuel by directing combustion gases through a secondary heat exchanger before they are vented. To prevent damage from the gas as it cools, this secondary heat exchanger is made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel and it is sloped to prevent condensate build-up.

    Quiet Comfort
Goodman takes great pride in producing equipment that doesn't disrupt your home. The blower and gas valve of the GMSS920603BN were selected for their incredibly low sound levels.

    Venting Options
The GMSS920603BN offers several venting options to streamline installation in a variety of applications. It can be used in either a two-pipe direct vent setup or a single-pipe configuration with combustion air provided from within your home. Additionally, it support both top and side venting options.

    Secure Cabinet
All GMSS92 furnaces are protected by a durable steel cabinet rated for less than 2% air leakage. The heat exchanger section is lined with foil-insulation to prevent heat loss and the return side of the cabinet is solid and airtight.

    Easy Integration
The GMSS920603BN makes it simple to enhance your system with a humidifier and an electronic air cleaner; just wire them directly to the low-voltage terminals on the control board.

Fuel Type To create heat, some form of fuel is required. Fuel Type specifies what the product uses as an input to create heat.
Natural Gas
Vent Type Products that use combustion (burning) of fuel to create heat also create potentially dangerous gasses that need to be exhausted (AKA "Vented"). Depending on the product, venting can be done via a chimney, through a side wall, or use a second vent to provide fresh air to the appliance.
Direct Vent
Modulating/Staging Stages are unique speeds or levels that equipment can operate at. More stages allow for better fine-tuned control of output, which improves comfort and efficiency. Modulating equipment can operate across a range of levels, giving the highest level of fine-tuned control. Learn More
Single Stage
Blower Type Blower type describes the motor that powers the fan in the unit. PSC multi-speed is the standard motor that operates with pre-set fan speed levels. ECM multi-speed are more efficient but still operate with pre-set fan speeds. Finally, ECM variable-speed motors are also energy efficient and automatically adjust to changing system conditions.

Can I use PVC as the venting material?
Larry
from West Virginia
December 26, 2015
Read Response +
Answer
Yes, the condensing process results in relatively low flue gas temperature and acidic condensate, which combine to make PVC the preferred venting material for the Goodman GMSS92 furnaces.

Considering replacement of my electric furnace with a Goodman natural gas furnace. Does the GMSS92 pricing include everything I need to make the conversion? If not, can you provide me with a list and pricing of additional needed equipment and accessories required?

Answer
There are two major changes you will need to make, neither of which we can supply you with at this time, but both of which use commonly available products.

The first is to run a natural gas line to the unit.

The second is to add exhaust venting, as you'll now be creating toxic fumes from the gas combustion. Since you are looking at a high-efficiency unit, you should be able to use PVC piping (see install manual for more detailed requirements) to properly vent the exhaust from your home.

There is an up-front cost, but converting from an electric to a natural gas furnace can be a great way to save money on monthly operating costs in many parts of the country.
