Goodman's air conditioners are all about reliable cooling at an affordable price. The DSXC18 line of air conditioners have a nominal SEER rating of 18 and a two-stage compressor. This means that your home's cooling is more efficient and consistent than it is with a standard single-stage AC. The savings don't stop at energy costs though, the DSXC180361 is designed for quick installation and maintenance as well. It also includes advanced components that protect the coil and compressor to ensure the unit's longevity and your peace-of-mind. Become a DSXC18 household today, and enjoy extremely efficient.

    Product Features

    Advanced Coil Design
The condenser coil of this air conditioner is designed with aluminum fins and rifled copper tubing to maximize efficiency. The fins and rifling serve to increase surface area, allowing the heat transfer capabilities of the materials to shine.

    UltraTech Compressor
A two-stage Copeland UltraTech scroll compressor provides the DSXC180361 with incredibly reliable refrigerant flow. The second stage increases efficiency by allowing the compressor to operate at a lower capacity when your demand is low.

    Secure Cabinet
The cabinet of the DSXC180361 is built to last. Galvanized steel construction, a durable powder paint finish, and a steel coil guard protect your equipment from wear and tear, increasing its longevity.

    Filter Drier
A filter drier is installed in the liquid line of this air conditioner. It serves two important purposes: removing moisture and trapping impurities. This prevents corrosion, freezing, and blockages that can negatively impact the operation of the air conditioner.

    Quiet Comfort
Goodman takes great pride in providing comfort that doesn't disrupt your home. The wire fan discharge grille and condenser fan motor of the DSXC180361 were designed to reduce noise levels without compromising performance. This model also utilizes a high-density foam sound blanket to curtail compressor noise.

    ComfortAlert
The included ComfortAlert compressor diagnostics module reduces the average time of maintenance calls and virtually eliminates misdiagnoses by experienced technicians, saving you money throughout the life of the air conditioner.

    ComfortNet Compatible
This air conditioner is compatible with Goodman's ComfortNet communicating controls. A ComfortNet control streamlines the installation and maintenance processes further by automatically detecting your equipment and providing diagnostics and troubleshooting.

What does the SEER rating mean?
Scott

Answer
The efficiency of air conditioners is often rated by the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) which is defined by the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute in its 2008 standard AHRI 210/240, Performance Rating of Unitary Air-Conditioning and Air-Source Heat Pump Equipment.

You can think of SEER ratings as the equivalent of MPG for cars. An energy efficient car will have a higher mile per gallon (MPG); the higher the SEER or MPG the better the efficiency and the more money you save.

I am in the process of installing a new Goodman heating & cooling system that is ComfortNet compatible. I am considering the CTK04 Thermostat, but I don't if I should spend almost $600 on this thermostat versus a non-ComfortNet thermostat at less than half the cost.

Answer
Using a Goodman ComfortNet compatible thermostat with ComfortNet compatible equipment offers several benefits that will not be available with any other thermostat. During installation, the ComfortNet compatible components will communicate with each other, and each will select the appropriate settings that will allow it to work best with the other components in the system. This means that set-up time should be significantly reduced, and there is no risk of making a programming mistake that could cause the system to operate less efficiently. Once the system is up and running, the ability of the thermostat to truly communicate with your furnace and air conditioner will allow you to take full advantage of the features in those components. This constant feedback will allow the furnace to better select the correct firing rate and blower speed than is possible without information from the thermostat. The air conditioner is also better able to select the correct stage with this feedback. Finally, should you ever have any issues with your equipment, the ComfortNet enabled thermostat will report any error conditions in clear English to help expedite the troubleshooting and repair process.
