Had this unit installed last Monday and California's PG&E decided on Tuesday to shut off power for "public safety". Generator ran 90 hours without a hiccup and saved our food and sanity. At 66 amps it ran everything in the house including our well pump. This is my second Generac and I can't say enough about them.

Per the maintenance schedule for this generator, "Engine oil and oil filter must me changed and valve clearance adjusted after the first 25 hours of operation." Also, during extended outages, I would suggest turning off the generator at least once every 24 hours to check the oil level. Please refer to the owner's manual for more information regarding maintenance for this generator.

Generac 16kW Replacing Older 15kW Centurion

This 16kW generator was purchased to replace an existing 15kW Centurion (Generac) with the 100A transfer panel being retained. The purchase and delivery of the new generator was flawless. The install was straight forward with the exception of the additional wire now required for the battery charger (if you are connecting to an older ATS then this needs to be considered).
Connecting the generator to Wi-Fi was easy and it downloaded the updates quickly. The generator has already run 3 times this week due to utility outages. I have UPS backup for network equipment and they would click constantly when on the old generator. With the new generator the UPS acts as if it were connected to utility power (no clicking/switching).
The Mobile Link app seems like a great idea if it worked consistently. Push notifications have come through intermittently as have the emails. Hopefully this will improve.

Generac needs to change the way these are programmed on start up. This was a bid install at a newly constructed house. The WIFI was scheduled to be installed in two weeks. My employees set the generator and connected it. They went to program and it would not let them finish the programming with out waiting out a mandatory 90 minute time while the generator searched for WIFI. So I paid two guys to sit around an hour and a half out of my own pocket! Then when it finally let them continue start up without WIFI it would not start. They read the manual and found the emergency disconnect in one location. Still wouldn't start. In the mean time I'm in my office searching the internet for trouble shooting guides. I finally found on a forum a dealer that mentioned a second hidden disconnect that the manual doesn't mention!! Was not a money maker and the internet is filled with complaints of the motor quality on Generac brand. Last one I will sell and I've sold a lot over the years. At one time I was even a dealer.

Unfortunately of all the generators I've installed as a General Contractor this was the worst experience I've ever had. I do not use Generac trained service people, because I don't have to. I use a qualified licensed Electrician and a qualified license plumber and I as a qualified licensed Contractor for installation.
After verifying that the generator was installed in exact accordance with Generac's instruction manual including changing the gas supply line from 1" to 1 1/4", (Generac calls for 1", NFPA calls for 1 1/4") several attempts to start the generator, all efforts failed!!
I contacted my Electrical Service Company that is a trained Generac service company and who does yearly maintenance on all my generators to help us. After their service Technician spent 2 hours trying to get the generator running, much of which was on the phone with Generac's Technical department, they finally determined the generator's control unit was shipped not programmed. The Technician had to insert a USB stick to program the generator. The Technician had 3 of these devices in his service van and fortunately the third stick worked and the others did not. If the third stick didn't work we have been stuck with standby as a monument !!!
I was extremely disappointed that a respectable company like Generac would ship a product to a job site that was unable to run . I kept my customer waiting almost 3 weeks for a standby generator. This debacle leaves me with quite a bitter taste for Generac......wouldn't it you ??? Would you be excited to purchase another Generac ??
