Exactly what does "direct vented" mean? I think my current boiler is chimney vented, so is a "direct vented" boiler applicable for me?

Answer
Direct Vent (also referred to as "Sealed Combustion") means that there are two vent connections to the outdoors. One is to bring air for combustion directly to the burner enclosure from outdoors and the other to exhaust flue gases directly outdoors (through wall or roof). Direct vent boilers cannot vent into a chimney, but if no other appliances are using the chimney, it can be used as a chase to connect the two vents to the outdoors.

What do they mean 2,000ft max alt? I live at 3,200ft above sea level.

Answer
The performance specifications are applicable to elevations up to 2,000' above sea level. Some manufacturers offer high altitude kits to compensate for lower air density at higher elevations, but for the Burnham Alpine boiler, there is no high altitude kit necessary. Instead, expect ratings to be reduced 4% for every 1,000 feet above sea level. For full details on ratings, you can check out the Alpine product data sheet in our Manuals tab, or here.
