Amana 15k BTU Capacity - Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner (PTAC) - 3.5 kW Electric Heat - 208/230 Volt

The unit runs quite as advertised. I love this.

I wanted to replace my Amana PTAC from 2010 instead of having a new fan motor installed. When the local HVAC technician found the trouble with the fan, he told me if you want a new PTAC I could buy one online and install it myself. I found eComfort and ordered a new PTAC. Delivery went well, the unit was well packaged and on a pallet. I get the old unit out of it's sleeve and the new one positioned to go in when I realize there is no way to turn the new unit on. The old unit had all the controls on the unit itself. I read the instructions and there is talk of a remote control. I check all the packaging to make sure I did not miss a TV-like remote, nothing. My first fear is that there is something missing from my shipment. On occasion, I have bought items from Lowes and Home Depot only to find out someone else had bought and returned the item and all the parts and accessories did not make it back into the box. It was easy to get a hold of a knowledgeable person at eComfort who verified I received everything I should have with this unit but that I needed a remote wireless thermostat. Ah OK! I'm feeling better. I go to the eComfort site and I do see a section on the page for this PTAC unit labelled Items you also need. The section looks like that section below items on line that is usually titled, "Items also bought by people who bought this unit". That is the only excuse I can come up with for missing the note about needing to buy a separate thermostat. When I got my Eden thermostat from eComfort in a timely manner, I was excited to feel the new PTAC operate. I read the instructions, yeah I often read the instructions because as a life long DIYer, I've learned that it is usually worth the time. The instructions talk about another kit (for the antenna) that needs to be installed on the PTAC for the thermostat to operate. I can't discern from the PTAC instructions whether that kit is installed already and there was nothing extra in the thermostat box. So, I call Amana service support and learn that yes, my new PTAC comes with the antenna installed. This is great! I'm good to go! Except that despite having the instructions in my hand I could not get the PTAC unit to bind with the wireless thermostat. Back on the phone with support (easy to get a hold of) and they talk me through the process and success!!! The Unit is quieter than the one replaced and the thermostat is an excellent upgrade from the controls on the old unit. Thank you, eComfort and Amana!!
