This is my second QC whole house fan. The last one I got was an 8400 - and it seemed oversized for that home. The new home is a bit bigger and our attic space more constrained, so instead of a dual fan, we went with this one.
The fan does a very good job of cooling rooms around the house a solid 15 degrees on days when we have cooler air outside, which is often, than inside under an asphalt roof in a not-well-insulated 100 year old house.
The only thing I'd change would be for it to have medium speed instead of just low and high - but I suppose I could have bought a different model for that:)

If you live in the North country, this is a great way to cool the house at night and saves a lot on AC costs with very little effort. It is a two-person job to install and not for all DIY. The electrical took the most time. I had to run power to the attic. While I was at it I put in an outlet and a light.

We had an old style whole house fan that sounded like a helicopter now with this my wife has to ask if it is turned on. We love it.

Follow the manufacturer guidelines with regard to size needed for your size house. It is recommended that you order a CFM fan that is three times your home square footage. It is spot on. I have an 1800sf home and ordered the ES-5400. It has two speeds. The higher speed is great to cool the home down quickly and the lower speed I use to run the fan at night to continually pull in cooler air. I also bought the remote switch which works every time even at 70' away with walls between the remote and the fan. I installed the fan at the opposite end of the home away from the bedrooms. This way cool air is pulled into the bedrooms first for comfortable sleeping and the fan noise is virtually undetectable. Good quality. Does what I wanted and expected. Really like the remote switch as I don't have to get up in the night to turn off or adjust as the remote sits on my nightstand. Fan could be packaged somewhat better. Shroud slightly dented but useable.

The fan works great. It was a little heavy and cumbersome to get into the attic, besides that it was pretty straight forward to install. The only issue I had was that the fan blades got bent in shipping and were rubbing. I was able to straightened it and I'm going to see if I can get a free replacement. As far as sound it is quieter than a regular whole house fan with the motor right at the louver. It's a good deal if you can install it yourself.

This is a great fan for the house. It has two speeds low and high. It runs very quiet at low speed, hardly know it is running. Running it every late afternoon to cool the house and the attic down and also bringing the fresh air into the house. I should buy it years ago. Love it and glad to have it.

We ha e a 2400sq/ft house. The fan is way overkill for this size house however I knew it was. The main reason I got this one was because of the amount of cfm on low. This efficiency model is 164 watts at 4304 cfm. At .1055 cents a kilowatt (my rate i pay the electric company) thats 1.7 cents an hour. Thats less than 42 cents a day if you run it ALL day. For fun we filled up the bottom floor with a Halloween fog machine so think you couldn't see in front of you more than 4 feet. With 2 windows opened down stairs and the fan on high, it cleared the house of fog in 4 mins. If you want to save on your energy bill in the spring and fall months. This is highly recommended. Like I said. Get a efficiency model that will pull the air flow you need on low. I believe you will be glad you did. Oh and as far as noise. On high it sound like the ac is running. (Our unit is in a closet) just a real low hum. On low you dont every notice it. You have to stop and see if its on.
