Can this unit be vented without a chimney? I know they sometimes need a blower in the vent in order to vent it out the side of the house.
Angelo
from New Jersey
October 19, 2016
Answer
The Bosch GreenTherm tankless water heater is a direct vent unit that does not require a chimney. The inducer blower that draws air into the heater and exhausts it to the outside is a standard part of the unit and does not need to be installed or purchased separately. As a direct vent unit, it both exhausts the flue gases to the outside and also draws combustion air from the outdoors, so both an intake and an exhaust vent will need to be provided.

Does a tankless gas water heater need electricity? My tank gas water heater does not.
Crystal
from Kentucky
August 15, 2016
Answer
Yes, all tankless heaters will require electricity. The units incorporate a draft motor to pull the flame through the heat exchanger to heat the water efficiently and to operate the controls. It uses very little amperage but power is necessary. If you need the unit to operate during a power outage, you can use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) like you would find on a computer.
+
Will this unit need to have a dedicated circuit since it is gas? I have an old house and don't have room for a dedicated circuit. If not how many amps will it draw?
Joe G
from Kansas
July 30, 2016
Answer
This unit does not need a dedicated circuit per the manufacturer. However, it may be required per building codes in your area. This unit has a maximum draw of 2.5 A.
