After revolutionizing the way that people saw thermostats, Nest Labs turned their attention to the oft-maligned smoke detector. With the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, they set out to design a friendlier, more effective home safety solution. By all measures, they succeeded wildly. With two levels of alarms, two types of alarms, three safety sensors, three activity sensors, and a communicating LED ring, the Protect is equipped to help you handle all manner of fire emergency. Getting protected is easy; the straightforward installation can be handled by any homeowner, and the free mobile app will guide you through setting up the Protect and designating an installation location. The only thing better than installing a Nest Protect is installing multiple Nest Protects, as these devices communicate with each other and share data—even if your Wi-Fi is down. When one Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide, all of your Protects will alert you not only to the presence of danger, but to the location as well. Most homeowners' relationship with their smoke alarm is fraught with irritation. Trade that frustration out for peace of mind, and install a Nest Protect today.

    Product Features

    A Better Alarm
The Nest Protect doesn't just beep shrilly at you in the event of an emergency—it also provides vital information through a voice alarm. The vocal alarm indicates the type of emergency and the room where it is occurring, making it easier for you to respond appropriately and in the safest manner possible. Additionally, research has demonstrated that voice alarms are more likely to wake children than beeping.

    Heads-Up
Traditional smoke detectors can't tell the difference between a burnt meal and a five-alarm fire, making it difficult to know if you should be exasperated or concerned when they go off. The Protect's Heads-Up system kicks in when smoke or CO levels are rising, but they have not reached the point of an emergency alarm. The Protect will audibly alert you, shift the LED ring color to yellow, and send a notification to connected phones.

    Multiple Sensors
The Protect is packed with three safety sensors for unparalleled protection. Smoke is detected early by an advanced photoelectric sensor, while a heat sensor monitors for sudden temperature rises. The carbon monoxide sensor detects CO, which is dangerous by itself and frequently an indicator of a fire. The Nest Protect even has a humidity sensor that allows it to differentiate between smoke and steam, so your shower doesn't set your alarm off.

    Stay Informed
Nest's free mobile application allows users to receive notifications when a Heads-Up or emergency state is entered or if batteries are running low. In addition to notifying users of an emergency, the app will also provide clear instructions on what to do that are tailored the type of alarm. The app is also home to your Safety History, which contains information on all Heads-Up and emergency states from the last 10 days including the highest levels of CO reached during each alarm.

    Pathlight
The Nest Protect doesn't just detect smoke and carbon monoxide, it also detects light and movement. These sensors allow the Protect to function as a motion-activated nightlight, providing a soft white glow to light your way at night. The intensity of the light can be set easily within the free mobile application, and with this wired model you can set Pathlight to stay on at night regardless of activity.

    Nightly Promise
When you turn you lights off at night, the Nest will give you a visual indicator of its battery, sensor, and Wi-Fi statuses. A momentary green glow from the LED ring lets you know that everything is in order and you can rest easily. If you get a yellow glow, just press the Nest button to get audio diagnosis of the issue.

    Nest Connectivity
The Protect and Nest learning thermostat don't just share an app, they also communicate with each other. Every Protect installed in your home serves as an extension of the learning thermostat's Auto-Away function, giving you more accurate automated temperature control. More importantly, if the Protect detects carbon monoxide, it will send your Nest thermostat a command to deactivate oil-fired and gas-fired heating equipment.

    Persistent Power
Power outages are no problem for the wired Nest Protect. It features a battery backup power source for instances when 120V power is not available.
